St James

St James Renovation Project

Project Overview

Our clients saw the potential when they bought a run down 1980’s project home on an acre in Burradoo. The brief was to create a contemporary addition, expanding the footprint of the house to create more living space for a growing family.

As space wasn’t a limitation with this project, we decided to open up the back of the house and design a contemporary barn style addition that takes full advantage of its garden setting.   Existing internal areas were remodeled creating functional spaces that draw you seamlessly through to the new kitchen, living and master suite.   The orientation of the light and airy addition creates great potential for indoor/outdoor entertaining as well as maximising thermal efficiencies throughout the year.

All windows were replaced and the brick on the original house was painted white, a direct contrast to the vertical black cladding on the addition.  This striking colour palette and the mix of old and new materials work together to create a cohesive textured building – a great example the transformation that can achieved through home renovation.

What they say

When Justin arrived on site for our first meeting he had already taken into consideration where best to position the extension to our home to maximise thermal efficiency. This was something we hadn’t even thought of, and it completely changed our ideas. We built a contemporary addition with high ceilings and light filled living spaces that take advantage of the winter sun all day. In summer, the layers of insulation and double-glazed windows ensure the heat is kept out. Despite almost doubling the footprint of our home, our power bills have reduced!
