Hammock Hill

Front of "Hammock Hill" house at night

Project Overview

Our brief was to create an expansive, period style home that maximised the views from its bushland setting and adhered to sustainable and passive design principles.

Early on in the design process we visited the site and made the decision to rotate the orientation of the house by 30 degrees to enhance thermal efficiencies.  A steep site can be a challenge but here it became an opportunity to create elevated, open plan living spaces with natural air flow.

The exposed nature of the site meant that cladding and insulation to protect against weather extremes was a key priority.  North facing living areas, solar panels and double glazing also contribute to a passive, energy efficient home.

Additionally, significant planning went into how best to utilise the steep terrain, with multiple underground water tanks and native landscaping to anchor the house in its bushland setting.

New builds are a wonderful opportunity to really put sustainability and passive design front and center leading to high functioning homes with lower energy costs.

What they say

Solis Haus with Justin at the helm made our building experience one of the easiest and most rewarding imaginable. While always providing sage and professional advice our dreams and desires were always foremost in his mind and in the plans he developed. This started with us providing example pictures of designs that excited us. With meetings on weekends as we worked full time he was engaging and receptive and always adding value and new ideas. Additionally he brought in our builder to ensure ideas were practical, functional and cost effective. His green and solar passive approach ensured our home is energy efficient, has natural air flow and is very energy efficient. We love the outcome and have engaged Solis Haus for two new projects. Thank you Justin and team.
